Standards & accuracy
Where do the conversion formulas come from?
Formulas are derived from official, definition-based conversion factors anchored to SI; see our methodology page for details.
Which standards does Units Verse follow?
We follow the SI (BIPM), NIST guidance and ISO/IEC 80000; binary data units follow IEC 80000-13. See our sources page.
Does Units Verse use SI units?
Yes. Every category is defined against SI base or derived units.
What is the difference between Metric and Imperial units?
Metric is a decimal system where units scale by powers of ten, while imperial uses traditional ratios such as 12 inches per foot. See our metric vs imperial guide.
What is the difference between US and UK measurement systems?
Some units share a name but differ in size — notably the US gallon (3.785 L) versus the UK/imperial gallon (4.546 L). See our US vs UK gallon guide.
How are temperature conversions calculated?
Temperature uses an offset as well as a scale factor, for example °F = °C × 1.8 + 32. See our temperature scales guide.
Why do some conversion results include decimals?
Because most unit relationships are not whole numbers; results are shown with sensible precision and rounded for readability.
Can I change the number of decimal places?
Yes. A precision control lets you display from 0 up to 10 decimal places without changing the underlying calculation.
Why are my results different from another converter?
Usually because of rounding or a different unit definition (for example US versus UK gallon); Units Verse uses exact, SI-anchored factors.
Can I trust Units Verse for engineering calculations?
Units Verse is highly accurate, but for safety-critical engineering work you should independently verify results, as noted in our disclaimer.
Can I trust Units Verse for scientific calculations?
Yes for general use; for research-grade work, confirm against the definitional source and mind significant figures.
